Poconos Nature Programs for KidsDelaware Water Gap National Recreation Area has free self-guided tours for kids in their Junior Naturalist program. It's lots of fun, tempting for adults. Here's how it works: Kids get a Discover Pack, which contains items necessary for completed a given task. Kids can select their task from a group of six suggestions. When your child completes the objective, he or she earns a Junior Naturalist patch. The patch means that now your child can do the Self-guided Junior Ranger Program, which guides the child through several activities at his or her own pace, over several visits to the park.Monroe County Environmental Education Center also has program for children. There are programs about animal tracks, insects, worms...you get the picture. These are more scientific-based, so there is some serious...but still fun...learning going on here. The Nature Conservancy in Northeastern Pennsylvania has 14,000 acres and has named The Poconos one of hte world's "Last Great Places". The Conservancy employs teenagers to maintain the trails and perform cleanup duties in the park area. The have the Kids' Conservation Corps for ages seven through twelve, each summer.
